Mompesson and the early Inns of Rutland

Rutland Record No20. Article based on Mompesson in Victuallers' Licences (Gibson). Sir Giles Mompesson was responsible for licensing Inns in England in 1617-20, but was a somewhat corrupt character to say the least. This article is the result of research carried out by Bob Jarrett. It includes a contemporary cartoon (one of the earliest in England) a copy and transcription of the Rutland entry in the account book, and details of the earliest references to Inns in Rutland.
